I am Certainly no expert and I am sure Bert will be along soon. However, this quarters edition of The Winchester Collector talks about the 3 variations of the Winder musket and mentions the spring clips used in the 1st variation.

Incedently the author is a Mr. Bert Hartman. [:)]

    Hello Ed,

Send an email to me at Win1885@msn.com and I will set you up.

For everyone else... go buy yourself a copy of the WACA magazine if you are not a WACA member.

Lastly, the spring clips were used exclusively on both the First and Second variation Winder Muskets, and for a very short time on the Third variation. The First variation was the only one of the three that used two (twin) barrel bands. There are actually three styles of the forend (Winder Musket) stocks.
