Saginaw/Underwood M1 carb. dating
Been learning about US military arms lately, such as dates on bbls. don't always jive with mfg. dates of serial #'s. Have found sites to ID my Garand, 03's and 1917's but can't find a site to date the serial # of my M1 Carbine. Can anyone help and give me any info on it? Rec. mkd. Saginaw S.G. - BBl. mkd. Underwood 11-43 - the stock has stamped letters VV and MR. It's still about the cleanest nicest one I've ever come accross. Do any of the above indicate rebuild or mix & match??

Good news, and bad news..
Good news: Carbines were manufactured in a 2 1/2yr. period of time. All of them. However, we can further narrow that already small timeframe somewhat by the Serial Number on your reciever. Would you be so kind as to let us have it?
Bad news: The many manufacturers were issued serial number blocks (first block, 2nd block, etc). There is no list showing month/year for a particular M1 carbine's date of manufacture by SerNo. If the barrel can be determined to be original to the rifle (unlikely), that will be the most accurate assessment of manufacture date. Saginaw made their own barrels; your Underwood barrel is a replacement.

vv means nothing,probably someone who owned the carbine...barrel has been replaced...put a pic here...rear site,barrel band,low wood/high wood,what marking are on the spine of the magazine,they all tell a story... 0
