Marlin 336/Glenfield 30 30-30 stock question
I have a Glenfield 30A which is the same as a marlin 336. I need to replace the stock and forend, but all the aftermarket stock sets have the barrel band type forend. My rifle has a metal cap that slides down and holds the forend in place. Can I use the barrel band type forend like Ram Line sells and just pick up a barrel band to hold it in place?? Would I have to do anything to the metal of the barrel? Thanks for any help!

"Can I use the barrel band type forend like Ram Line sells and just pick up a barrel band to hold it in place??"..........no not without modifiying the rifle, the 'nose cap' is attached to a 'bar' that is dovetailed into the barrel, the barrel band just has a bolt that goes though a notch in the barrel. 0 -

While I cannot tell you the specifics of what you are trying to do, I can say that the "notch" for the barrel band screw is just a hole that is drilled through the space between the barrel & magazine tube. Here is a picture of that "notch" on a Winchester 94 (the front barrel band notch is illustrated, because it is what is shown in closeup), with its barrel band already removed:

Thanks for the help, I am going to order the stock set and barrel band and bring it over to the local smith and have him install the forend. 0
