gunsmiths! 22 coversion kit 1911 question

Hi, I have a 22 conversion kit for a colt 1911.
It is an FT made in Italy,E.E.A.COCOA FLA.
I installed it on my colt 1911 made in 1919.
It will only fire one shot,and will not cycle.
Tried diferent kinds of high vol. amo.
Can someone help,it will be much apereccated.

  Hello The Italian made conversion units are known to have problems. We need to know a few more things . when the first round fires does the empty case extract & eject . does the next round in the magazine fully chamber and does the hammer stay cocked so the second round is ready to fire . If you want to double click on my name and send me an email I will try to help I have a large number of different kinds of 22 Conversion units that fit on a 1911 type frame.
  
  editOk now with a loaded magazine load one round Dont pull the trigger but with your finger out of the trigger guard and gun pointing in a safe direction Snap the slide back. With your thumb and forefinger.Then release the slide to chamber the next round do this in quick but safe way Did the first round extract and then eject[?]Did the second round load[?] IF THE ANSWER IS YES then your recoil spring is binding your conversion unit did come with a light weight recoil spring right[?]
  
  Edit #2hello your topic will get locked when it reaches 10 post so I suggest you go to your last post click on the pencil Icon this will let you add to your post instead of adding a new post. It sounds like the slide is dragging on the top of the magazine lips or recoil spring is binding.load one round in the chamber and now jerk the slide back and let go does the loaded round Extract and eject,then the slide close [?]If so then I suspect the magazine is setting to high in the frame. reinstall empty Magazine and jerk it back does the slide go forward or do you need to push it closed[?]

  Round dosn't eject, gets jamed
  second round stays in the mag.
  hammer is forward

  without loading the gun, pulling back the slide with empty mag inserted,the slide sticks open and needs to be pushed forward.
  also the slide catch dosen't engauge.If one pushes up on the catch the slide will move forward and catch,but it takes a second for it to do this.
  Like you said the recoil spring must be binding.
  Is there a cure for this?
  Edit Yes need to push it closed,tried three diferent mags
  sometimes it will hang there and then close on it's own,you need to engauge the catch by hand
