1862 US New York muzzleloader
Heres another old smokepole I have some questions on, hope I'm not wearing out my welcome!
This one looks quite similar to the 1851 springfield I have, but the side with the hammer is marked: (eagle) US NEW YORK 1862 nothing else. It is also missing it ramrod and some age to the metal but otherwise a nice gun that would more than likely shoot. Researching this didnt turn up much, perhaps it is what they refer to as a 'contract' gun?

As the government was unable to produce enough firearms during the Civil War, many contracts were awarded to outside manufacturers.
