AR15 upper

I was looking at buying an A2 upper on the auction side to complete my build. If the upper has M4 feed ramps, can it be used with a 20" barrel?

    Yes the only difference on the M4 feed ramps is that they are cut a little farther and angled to aid in chambering the round easier.

    Actually the upper doesn't have the feed ramps the feed ramps are cut into the barrel itself. The upper receiver only holds the barrel into the upper.

    Yes you canuse it. The main feed ramps sre in the barrel extention where the bolt locks in.

    Some M4 uppers DO have the feed ramps cut into them. They are cut to match the barrel extension. Picture as reference.

    To answer the ops question. If the upper has feed ramps cut into it, you would want to have an M4 barrel extension on your 20" barrel. No issues with doing that. Not all M4 uppers or uppers sold as M4 uppers have feed ramps. With the feed ramps in the upper, on longer bullets you may see the bullets hitting a standard barrel extension on the bottom side of it, depending on how deep the cut outs are in the upper. Again, if the you use an M4 barrel extension on the barrel, there won't be any problems there. You should be able to find an A3 upper for the same price as an M4 upper if your 20" barrel doesn't have the feed ramps on the barrel extension.
