I was looking at purchasing a Sig P226 in 40 cal. Has anyone used a drop in barrel to convert to a 9mm ? If so how well did it work? Any recomendations? Thanks Tim

    I don't think you can convert to or from 9mm to the other calibers with the exception of the model 250. The only conversions possible are .40 to .357 SIG and vise-versa.

    You can convert to 357 sig with just a barrel.

    If you want 9mm, then you need a complete upper, along with new mags. You can go from 40 to 9mm, but you can't go the other way for long because the frame is supposed to be reinforced on the ones made for 40 and 357 sig.

    If you find the parts, then it will work properly.

    Unlike the Glock, where there actually is a simple drop-in aftermarket barrel-only conversion to 9mm from .40SW, I've never seen nor heard of such a product for the SIG p226.

    I think Harold has it.

    If you want to go to 9mm from 40SW, I think you'll need an entire upper slide assembly in 9mm luger. That won't come cheap (I'd expect to pay on the order of $300 for it) but it will still be cheaper than a second whole gun, and involve no extra paperwork or registration since an upper is just parts, and not legally a gun.

    You might contact SIG and see if they'll sell you one.

    As to magazines, you'd probably be better off with 9mm luger SIG magazines, but there is actually some chance that ordinary 40SW mags might work with 9mm. This does seem to work OK for some other guns (like Berettas) for example.

    Also, if you do go this route, I'd suggest getting the 9mm slide in a different color/finish than the one you have in 40SW. That will help remind you which upper is on the gun at any time, and (hopefully) reduce the chance of accidentally putting the wrong ammo in your gun.

    If you were to try to run 40SW in a 9mm upper, you probably wouldn't be able to get the gun to go into battery. The other way around, not only would a 9mm fit in a .40SW chamber, it might even go off if the round were held in place by the extractor! While this *probably* wouldn't hurt you or the gun, I don't think this is something you'd want to try.

    the guys got it right... 40 to .357 sig or back the other way..same mags for both rounds...wont go to 9mm

    You can convert the P226 from 40/357 to 9mm. Bar Sto and EFK Firedragon both make 9mm conversion barrels for the 40/357 Sig P226. I have an EFK, if works just fine with factory 40 mags.
