Chasspot Bayonet or What?
This was advertized as a chasspot. It looks allot like a chasspot but the handle is iron (or something besides brass), has odd engravings along the top and where it connects to the rifle, is made a little different. I am including a picture of a chasspot (the one the left) for comparison. The date stamped is 1801, which is confusing me a bit. There are no other stamps other than the serial. The scabbord serial matches that of the bayonet. It was recovered from China recently.

This is a fake, a chinese fake.
They could not understand the writing on the back of the blade,so they scribbled some characters and assumed it was a reasonnable facsimile.
there were no Chassepot with the letter prefix FH.

Besides which the Chasspot certainly wasn't around in 1801. 0 -
I have read that the chasspot is the most copied bayonet ever to exist. Even the USA made something very similar, i read. I was hoping that someone would know if this fit on any certain Chinese weapon made around the turn of the century. 0
