S&W 29-2, is it worth it?
I have a chance to buy a S&W 29-2 from an estate for $550. 6" barrel, TH, TT, RR & WO, but no box, papers, etc. Gun is in excellent condition. SN is 818,xxx. Is this price about right? I see more 6 1/2" on the auction side. Were they an earlier version, and any more valuable? Thank you

Jerry, Yes, the 6 1/2" barrels are earlier. They discontinued the 6 1/2" in 1979 and went to the 6". The 6 1/2 guns do seen to bring slightly higher prices since they are no longer made.
I would snap it up at $550 if its in excellent condition. That gun should have a "N" prefix to the serial number.0 -
Yes, its a good price, and many think the 29-2 was the best iteration of the various "dash" models. 0 -
Yes Laredo Lefty, you're right, it does have an N prefix. Also, I forgot to add that it's blued, as opposed to nickle. Thank you. I've got a 29-3 in 4", but I just like the pinned and recessed. 0 -
Get it! You won't lose anything on it! 0
