Sometimes liberals sneer at the idea we might keep arms against government tyranny, because a bunch of pistol-packing Tea Party types have no chance of repeating the success of the Revolution against a modern military force. This completely misses the point. A disarmed populace has little choice but to obey orders. If the population is armed, a tyrant's forces have to do more than just brandish their weapons. they'd have to start pulling triggers. Victory for a righteous populace would come in the military's refusal to pull those triggers. Tyranny should never be easy. Of course, it should never come to that again, in the United States. As long as the population is armed, this is an understanding, and a duty. not an assumption.

A good read, COB. Particularly above. Thank you.

    Don,

    Thanks my friend.

I just finished reading and digesting the transcript of the McDonald case and I'm a bit encouraged by what I read. I'm still not enthusiastic, but I'm encouraged.

Here's hoping we get what we need - our rights back.

Very good and spot on! The bed wetters on GB need to read that paragraph that Don quoted out several times.

    COB:

I have read it, but must confess to incomplete digestion.

I too am cautiously optimistic. I found troubling the references to the acceptances of the remedies provided for in 'Heller', and was also disappointed in the following exchange"

    Feldman:
"This is a right that has always been subject to the political process..."

    Robert's:
"Well, sure, and it's still going to be subject to the political process if the Court determines that it is incorporated in the Due Process Clause."

On balance, however, incorporation seems to be where we are headed, but considering the above, one must wonder if it is really going to mean a whole lot.

    Don,

That's exactly why Gura was trying to go the route of the Privileges and Immunities path. This takes it OUT of the courts. Yes it's harder but it's stable and well founded so we could have counted on many years of regaining our rights.

Due process leaves us spinning in the wind as always, at the mercy of the activist judges and crooked politicians.

    I was hoping for more.

I am still hoping for (though not expecting) more, COB.

A lot depends upon what Roberts actually meant by 'if'.
