S&W 622 Removal of barrel bushing
I need to remove the barrel bushing to put my adapter for my suppressor on it. Spoke with S&W...they said it took a special tool. They told me to be creative. Any help?

Have a machine shop make you one. 0 -
Check our forum archives. About a month ago someone posted, saying he had the tool, but couldn't figure out how to detach the breech end of the barrel. Maybe if you contact him, he'll share with you where he got the tool, & whether or not he actually completed the job.

You can make one by grinding down a socket that matches the diameter of the barrel. You simply grind it down to where there are two tapered tabs left.
After doing that, it is very easy to remove. However, I take it one step further after having the barrel nut slip and scratching the end of the gun a little. I now stick a short wooden dowel down the barrel to help keep the socket centered. I haven't had a problem since. If you need pics, I can probably dig it out over the next few days and snap a few.
On another forum a guy made one out of a flat piece of steel (it really needs to be tapered, if you notice, the grooves on the nut aren't flat like for use with a screwdriver but rather tapered like you could use a coin):
I like the socket idea better because I can get a better grip and can more consistently anchor it.
Oh, and one other thing, use something like a rubber strap over your suppressor adaptor when tightening because they quite often work themselves out or, they unscrew from the gun instead of unscrewing the suppressor from the adaptor.
I finally found a picture that shows how the slot is tapered:

Thanks guys... got it off today. 622 functions so much better with the suppressor. Sig Mosquito has to go! 0 -
You're welcome breddyrrt.
I am not sure it functions any better, but they are more of a pleasure to shoot without having to wear ear protection. They do seem to get dirtier faster with a suppressor, I guess it is that extra back pressure.
The 422/622/2206 and 2213/2214 line will all work with that same barrel nut adaptor. They are all perfect suppressor platforms because of the low barrel placement. The longer 10 and 12 shot mags from the 422/622/2206 will also work in the 2213 and 2214, they just stick out of the bottom.
Best of luck.0
