    Pull the triger to release the firing pin. Hold the safety at half safe and then pull back the bolt.

    I just checked mine. Close the bolt, pull the trigger, press the trigger forward and hold it there. Now open the bolt and it will come out.

    you should download a copy of the owners manual from winchester and if your shipper doesn't require removing the bolt then I wouldn't since it will be easier for them to lose the bolt if loose or seperatye in package, just ask and others will or can tell you of the nightmares in shipping, for me shipping rifles or shotguns the postal service has done a great job and when they wanted the bolts removed I pointed out that their rules don't require it to be removed and so I wouldn't sdo it doesn't get lost should the box get broken open, they agreed.

    You should not dryfire your rifle or any rimfire just to uncock it. Instead gently let the bolt down while holding the trigger back and it will be ready for the next step which was already covered.
