bolts - flat & round

What is the difference between the flat bolt and round bolt in the early ruger M77 tang safetys ?

    The earliest ones had the flat bolt. The bolt handle, between the knob and body of the bolt is flat. So, the actual bolt is not flat. It is the handle. Later ones had round body on the bolt handle.

    Herschel thank you for the responce, After reading your post I found some pictures then compared to mine and now understand what your referring to. thanks again for your help.

    At the risk of being very wrong (WTH, after shooting BHPs for 35 years I just learned there's such a thing as a SA and DA convertible type [:D]) but I have an early M1 Carbine and a later version. The early one has a bolt body that is flat on the top from front to rear, the later one is round on top from front to rear when in the closed position. I don't think the bolt handle, as part of the op rod, is the determining factor. But I learn new things all the time ....

    dsf, Man are you out in left field. The question was about a Model 77 Ruger. I must confess that I too, at times, have failed to read the question carefully.
