marlin 336 front sight and band removal

I am looking at a 336 that appears to have the barrel band on the wrong side of the front sight and I am wondering is it difficult to move it to its' proper place behind the front sight? Because the taper is thinner at the end of the barrel they used a nut to take up space so they could tighten it on. I think that is what they did. How much of a job to put back in proper position?

  I'm not sure how they did that. Looking at my 336s, there is no room in front of the sight for a barrel band. Sounds like someone did a bubba job on it and I would be leary of buying it.

  A hacksaw, cutting torch, or big hammer should help resolve your problem... or, you could go buy yourself a real true lever gun ... A WINCHESTER Model 1894[^]

  If you can post a picture, mabe we can help you. My 336 and the rest of my Marlins have the front sight held on with screws.

  Thanks guys I think countryfarmer pegged it. I gotta wonder why they felt the need to remove it in the first place.
