Remington 1100 conversion
Picked up a used Remington 1100 12ga. with a vent rib barrel, synthetic stock, 2 3/4" shells only (cheap). The external finish is "mottled" a little from some light rust and the person before me trying to clean it up. Doesn't look to bad.
I would like to use this to make a "tactical" version and was interested in shortening the barrel to 21" or so, then adding some nice ghost ring sights. I read earlier here in a search that length is an issue for cycling.
Can anyone steer me to a set of sights that can be added on the front over the vent rib or on top (if tapped) for the front.
I think I will tap the rear for a weaver long rail and then add a ghost ring onto that in case I stumble upon some other rail mounted stuff for sighting.
Can't decide whether to swap the stock for something else. I don't want a pistol grip (unless it is part of a shoulder stock) and I'm not much on folders either.
Next would be a finish. I understand there are some spray on coatings that are pretty good.
So the shopping list is:
1. Rear rail (I'll drill and tap for)
2. Rear Ghost ring sight rail mounted
3. Matching front sight that will fit over vent rib (with barrel shortened
4. Finish (matt or dark) to cover up the imperfections.
5. Stock options
Anyone been down this road or have some ideas?

1. I like the 21" barrel with a choke. Would the front sight be tall enough for a rear ghost ring?

All the early slug barrels were 21 inches, they cycle fine, I have a 20 inch house gun that functions fine as well. 0 -
Gas ports for different lengths and different chokes (fixed) are different diameters...

Get yourself an old sytle 21" slug barrel with rifle sights. It will already have an IC choke. Add a synthitic stock set (I used a youth stock for a shorter LOP), an a 2-3 shot mag extension and a ghost sight and you will have a great home defense shotgun. Just make sure whatever ammo you use will cycle. I have seen some 21" and 22" barrels with ribs and Rem-Chokes but they are also more expensive. 0 -
williams makes a bolt on rifle sight for front and rear, in the $25 dollar range, I use them on my slug gun, fully adjustable fiber optics. 0
