Can you remove the flash suppressor or is it a muzzle brake. These are 2 different things and many people confuse the two.

To answer your question, I am unable to get it off the gun. It appears to have a silver (or shiny washer) and the cage does not have the cut outs on the bottom like it does on the sides and top.

According to this website: http://www.biggerhammer.net/ar15/ar15serial.html (IF I am reading this right)

    S/N MH086020 and Below are pre-ban guns. My S/N is MH0418**

Gimme a day or two to get pics uploaded.

Something I had never noticed before it says cal. .223. For some reason I had it in my mind that is said 5.56. So I lied to someone at some point. My bad. lol

You need to post photos of your rifle. Be sure that at least 1 photo shows the markings on the receiver, including the serial number. We also need to see a close-up of where the bayonet lug was.

There are no freak Colt AR-type rifles; there are just hundreds of variations.

First off, it is actually marked AR-15? It sounds like one of the Colt Sporters produced between 1990 and 1994 and it was not Clinton who cut off the bayonet lug, Colt did it all by themselves long before the Crime Bill was even dreamed up. Photos, markings, and serial numbers are needed if you really want to find out more about the rifle. As it sits now, the rifle would not be legal for sale in CA.

It could still be a pre-ban gun, as Colt, and Ruger both De-milled their guns before the rumor of the ban, as the word was that there was not going to be a grandfather clause. They both lopped off bayonet lugs, and welded or pinned flash hider's. Ruger also went above and cut up all of their 20 and 30 round magazines, and destroyed all their folding stocks.

If your rifle says Colt Sporter on it, and not AR-15, then it is one of these late pre-ban rifles.

Sorry, can't get the pics to enlarge for some reason... Anyways, the gun dos say Sporter. So if it is a late pre-ban gun does it have any significant value? About what do you think this gun should sell for?
    Thanks for your help.

Too many people throw around the name AR-15, when in reality they don't have anything close to it. Now that the ban expired and anyone (unless you are in CA , NY State or a few others) can go out and buy a rifle with the bayonet lug and any other "deadly feature" these rifles which were built between the Bush ban and the 1994 Crime Bill don't bring any premium. On the other hand, someone who lives in a location where, due to state laws, the ban never really expired would probably be very interested in buying the rifle. As it sits now it is not legal in CA.

Actually, here in NY that is a $1000.00 to 1200.00 gun all day...maybe more. The saving grace on the value...it says Colt on it.

Show me $1400 and I will show you your new gun. I have the box, the manual (have to locate it), original cleaning kit, Obviously the gun. I have no idea how many rounds has been shot through it. But I would say absolute no way it has been 1000 and I would give an honest guess around 500. I don't recall the gun coming with a sling. One stipulation, the 2 10 round mags have been converted to 20 round mags after the ban expired.

As for the flash suppressor, I still can't get it off. I have found no sign of pinning, so I wonder if that silver washer is a weld. It does NOT appear to be welded in the sense of a typical welding bead.

I will entertain any reasonable offer. But any transaction will take place on the auction side for the safety of both parties.

    Thanks for everyones help.

You most likely have a 6601. Colt buckled under before the ban came in and removed the bayonet lug[xx(] Your gun should say on the sie by the serial number "SPORTER MATCH H-BAR" The silver washer is a "PEEL" washer to align the solid bottom flash hider. They are put on very tight.
