Are you putting the front of the mag into the hook and then rotating the back in?

Is the mag well too narrow?

Or is it that the mag catch is not catching on the locking lug?

Yes I am putting it in the front where the notch is in the frame and the mag, it looks like the clip on the rear of the mag is catching on a steel round pin that goes through the frame of the reciever. It needs to go about another 1/2" to clip in.

It's not to narrrow, it is hitting on a steel round pin that is in the rear where the mags goes in. It looks like a long rivet that goes through the frame of the gun.

FLW1954.....ran to the gunsafe and pulled out my Rom AK 74 and have it in my lap as I type. On the back of the mag about one inch down is a metal ledge. Put the back of the metal into the receiver and in one quick motion pull the mag back and it should rotate quickly into the receiver and lock into place. There should be nothing inside the receiver blocking the mag, and having the bolt open or closed should not matter. The AK mags all go in about the same, 47/74's etc and they go in good. I don't want to sound silly, but are you sure you have the correct mag to the correct gun? Smack my hand if you like (and I am not calling you stupid as I have done the same thing in my life) but you should not be having a problem. Anyway, you will get it solved eventually and when you do you will have a lot of fun with it.

I am not sure if these are the right mags. It came with one bakelite and I bought 6 from K-VAR and nome of them really work right. I am waiting on four more mags a through gunbroker seller who says they are for the gun I own. I own 4 AK's and I don't have a problem with any of the others, they are diffrent makes thought.quote:Originally posted by gary wray

Who's the Importer/Assembly - Century? The importer's stamp should be somewhere on the left side of the receiver. If it's Century - chances are the mag. opening is not cut properly. These parts kits are brought into the country as single stack capable receivers and are cut out to accept the staggered mags. We've seen a couple like this. If you can't get it to work, you need to return it to the retailer for return to Century for remediation. Good luck.
