Savage model 99
I HAVE A SAVAGE 99. I KNOW FROM THE SERIAL# IT WAS MANUFACTURED IN 1940. HOWEVER IT DOES NOT HAVE THE WORDS "MODEL 99" (A B C D E EG EGR F G R RS T K ETC ETC)STAMPED ANY WHERE THAT I CAN SEE. IS THERE SOMEPLACE WHERE I CAN FIND THE EXACT MODEL DESIGNATION THAT I HAVE?
THE RIFLE IS CHECKERED, HAS A PISTOL GRIP, 24"BARREL, BEAD SIGHT IN A RAISED RAMP, SCHNABEL FORE-END. HOWEVER AS I SAID IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE THE WORDS "MODEL 99"STAMPED ANYWHERE ON IT LET ALONE THE LETTER IN ORDER TO IDENTIFY IT. THANKS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION AND HELP IN SOLVING THIS MYSTERY!!

I have a Savage model 99 DL with the top mounted tang safety and would like to find out if anyone can tell me if Bausch and Lomb ever made the early adjustable scope mounts for the DL with the top mounted safety.
If anyone has a set of mounts (if made) I would be interested in purchasing them. I have a Balfor "[?]A" scope and spring mounted rings and need the adjustable mounts.
Thanks,

Bob, Welcome to the forum.
According to a B & L booklet I have from 1960 there were mounts made for the Savage 99. It is part number 61-42-98. It shows both two piece and one piece bases in the illustration. I believe the one piece would be for the model 99. If you can't find them in a B & L, look for Kuharsky. They were the same. These mounts will show up on gunbroker and the big internet auction from time to time.0 -
I don't know if any of these will work but I've got them up for auction now. auction #

I have talked to HE Gibbs in New York and they recommended the model 61 42 55 but were unable to say for sure if they would work on the 99 DL due to the top mounted slide style safety.
I have one set and the front mount works but the rear mount interferes with the safety.
I have not been able to find out much on the Kuharsky Brothers mounts for this gun.
Thanks for the reply and still looking
