Hello IMHO the 1911 design is one of if not the best designed semi auto Pistol ever. However I think the standard 230 grain 45 ACP BALL round is near the top limit for both structural strength and acceptable recoil in this pistol. To fire a hotter round you either need a heavier slide or Heavier recoil spring or both and to take the recoil of said round some other kind of grips .AMMO COST will be a big problem and unless you hand load hard to find. I had 3 duifferent calibers of AUTO MAG and chasing empty cases are the pits. I had a bolt action conversion that fit a 1911 frame which shot a 308 Winchester. It would start anyone on a quick trip to learning how to flinch when shooting a pistol . The 45ACP is one of the best Man Stoppers . For hunting go with a big bore Revolver. Heavier gun and better grips for recoil. YMMV

Had one, does produce a lot of energy. Recoil was more of a shock than kick. One hell of a muzzle flash[:D][:D]
