Safe to shoot?
I have a Winchester '92 SR carbine in .44-40 made before 1900. It is in excellent condition. Can cowboy smokeless loads of .44-40 be fired in this? I have been asking around and some say no way others say no problem. At Turnbulls they said no problem. So, what do you folks say? Any one actually done it?

I do it with 73's and 92's all the time never had an issue. 0 -
Just to give you a little more confidence...I have a Savage 99 Saddlering carbine (30-30) made in 1900 as well. I had similar thoughts...but decided to go for it...I fired a regular factory soft-point in 150 Gr and it shot fine...and accurate too! If I do any further shooting with this gun...I may go with low-recoil or cowboy ammo. The "oldies" are FUN to shoot! 0
