    That must have been a fun find! I believe it's a "boot pistol" of some sort. Is the barrel brass? Bet it would have a great story to tell.[:)]

    Your info is correct. Someone may come up with info about Squire & Co who was probably a dealer. Likely the marks will ID it as English made. The lug on the bottom of the barred ID it as a 'turn-off' pistol in which the barrel unscrews (turns off) to load. The lug is there to engage a ring spanner for turning the barrel.

    Thanks for checking it out guys. The find wasn't mine but I wish it was, just trying to help I.D. it for the finder. I too thought that Squire was probably an importer or a dealer. Hopefully someone can tell the manufacturer from the marks. Thanks.

    The marks on the barrel will be proof marks which will ID it if English. Usual is entwined G with P and another Crown over V but have nothing to ID actual maker.
