.270 Sears Value

I came acrossed a .270 Sears #2731400. Any idea on what it's worth? Thanks in advance.

    We will need the model number, not the serial number, in order to evaluate what you have. Sears sold rifles manufactured by Stevens, Winchester, Remington and Marlin, purchasing enough of them that they put their own brands and names on them. J.C.Higgins, Ted Williams, and of course, Sears & Roebuck.

    Normally they bring a percentage of what the name brand similar model bring although they typically are of the same quality, perhaps not tricked out as much.

    For example, I have a Sears Model 53 in .270 Winchester, although some books incorrectly identify it as being made by Savage it was actually made by Winchester and is identical to a Winchester Model 70. Value on mine is about 60% what a Winchester Model 70 in similar condition would appraise for. Similarly, I have a Sears model 200 12 guage pump shotgun that is identical to a Winchester 1300, same story.

    The 273.1400 is the Sears identification number and the 273 indicates Winchester was the supplier. The 1400 inbdicates the specific Sears model and variation.

    I suspect you will find that this is a Winchester model 70.

    It is infact the model 53, and it is a Winchester gun aswell. Thanks for your help everyone.

    the book values on store brands are generally 10-20% less then the values on the actual manufacturers book values, if you want to go by book values.
