Mid 30s Shotgun Identification

New member, I Picked up an early German shotgun marked " UDO ANSCHUTZ " "Zella-Mehlis"
Is stamped 1936, is 16ga. O/U with lots of very high quality engraving, and is in excellent condition.
I have tried to research, but not much luck on any shotguns whatsoever by this name.

Any help would be very much appreciated, will post pic soon as I figure out how to post them up[img][/img]

    Welcome to the forum.

    Zella-Mehlis is a town in Germany. Udo Anschutz is/ was a person who made firearms. High-quality pictures are what is needed to idtentify your shotgun. We will need to see all of the markings on the gun. Take off the wood, and the barrels, and look for markings anywhere that may be hidden, otherwise. Photograph the markings.     Thanks Very much, glad to hear that someone knows of this mfg. I have loaded the pics to Image shack, and will attempt to point to them. Let me apologize in advance for the pics, they are decent resolution, but in looking at them, its seems the lighting resembles that of a dungeon....

    There were around fifty German gunmakers with the last name Ansch?tz. Udo Ansch?tz was born 17th November, died 4th November, 1935. I would suggest that your shotgun was proofed in April of 1925 and the other number MAY be a serial or barrel number. I can't see your online pictures without a password.

    Thanks for the info, I was told the 1936 was the date, but trust you on the 1925 proof, I will try to post the pics here after I have resized them, will see if this helps:

    Think the serial number is the 7007, seems to be the only number on all components of the shotgun

    That is a very nice shotgun, enjoy! I can't make out the second number in the four digits but there is clearly a period between the first two and last two numbers.

    I have purchased the blue book and tried to line up some of the marks but no luck, seems that the blue book only has marks that are referenced after the 1950s...

    I had also thought about this weapon being mfg by the guild, but I recently learned that UDO was somewhat famous for the mfg of open pistols, but no mention of him and shotguns to date. The markings on a tag for the weapon (was an estate purchase) indicate the weapon actually belonged to UDO (says it was his personal weapon) but its just a tag and obviously that could never be confirmed so I left that out of my bidding.

    The tag also indicated that ED Smith in Columbia Missouri had appraised the shotgun, if anyone here is from that area and has even heard of ED that would be a big help, I have tried to contact a few shops there and no luck...

    Thanks again for all the support, this is a great forum, I am just getting into collecting, have a few WWII 1911s, but this is my first shotgun.
