Hello,
can anybody help ?, I live in the uk and have recently inhereted a deactivated us & s M1911A1 I beleive that they are quite rare , It has some parts missing ( that I will list if anyone is interested ) I need some help sourcing these parts in the USA so that I can take it to a gunsmith and get him to order the parts and undertake the work . I don't think that I would be able to order the parts directly myself as in the uk a M1911 is classed as a "section 5 " firearm and is totally illegal ( in a firing state) I wish to get it back to it's original "G.I issue" condition to keep for myself I know that in the U.S you will cringe at hearing that it will not fire but if I had not taken it , it would have been handed in to the police and destroyed ! it is a piece of history and hopefully will become an antique in my lifetime.
Anyway if anyone can help me I wil be most greatfull , or if any one is just interested in it please let me know ans I will tell them any imformation on it that I can ,even send some pictures if I can figure it out, thank-you regards Steve.

You can try Gun Parts Corp, when their site come back up. They are in the process of revising it. They export firearms parts. Given the gun laws in the U.K. though, it questionable in my mind if they will be willing to export any there though? 0 -
Am I reading this correctly? Are you asking for help in finding parts for your pistol that will make it illegal to own in your country? I think UK laws are ridiculous but, by your own admission, it's illegal to own your gun in firing condition yet you want the parts to restore it.
What do you mean by "deactivated"? Has the receiver been welded or is it just missing the parts to make it fully functional? Maybe I'm misunderstanding so please clarify.0 -
Spider: I've seen deactivated UK firearms. Most apparent is the barrel (that's what their version of ATF regards as the firearm) is opened up at the chamber end..sorta like a cutaway model.
Now, our barrels are Okay here in the US. Once it gets "Over There" (George M. Cohan*-so sorry, Joe) it is illegal.
I really don't think the frame/receiver is altered. It's the FCG parts alteration/barrel destruction that renders it into the UK version of a Demil.
Personally, I'd walk. Best, Joe

Steve, there is zero availability of original parts for 1911A1 pistols from suppliers. Most pistols have been refinished &/or had parts from different pistols exchanged. On rare occasion someone will find & sell original parts at gun shows or the online auctions, but original parts for a US&S are especially difficult to locate.
The only reasonable possibility is that you should be able to find the correct Keystone grips (K inside a 5 pointed star).

I'd just thought I had better try to clarify the meaning of "deactivated" in relation to my US & S M1911A1, I'm sorry if I caused any confusion with my intentions , this gun has been deactivated by a qualified "section 5" (military ) gunsmith and has been sent to a gun barrel proof house ( one of only two in the U.K ) which has tested it and issued a certificate part of which states that it is " incapable of discharging any shot, bullet or other missile " , this makes this gun fully legal to own in the U.K. , it has not been deactivated by just simply removing some parts.
What they have had to do to it is quite horrendous ,I will try to explain but please bear with me as I am no gun expert as we are kept well away from them in this country, anyway looking it now it has had that I can see -
1/ the barrel welded closed at the front
2/ the barrel has had a pin driven and welded into it at the breech
3/ the barrel has been slotted open under the breech
4/ the frame has been milled down about 3/8 th of an inch between the breech and the top of the magazine
5/ I think that the slide has been milled out just below where the firing pin emerges to strike the cap.
I believe that if this gun had been deactivated/ certified pre-1993 the work needed would have been less draconian .
Anyway as you can now imagine this gun will never fire again I'm not saying this is great but it was either this or hand it in for destruction! . The main parts that I am in need of for it are a firing pin / spring/ sear , a hammer ( short stumpy type from what I have seen not long spur ) , and lastly a G.I type trigger It does have one at the moment but I have been told it is an adjustable target trigger, all of these parts If I could source them I would give the information to a gun smith and get him to possibly make the purchase for me ? . If it comes to it would I be able to use non-original parts that would look the same / do the job, Any ideas ?
