stainless steel bluing

Does anyone know the best way to blue stainless steel. I bought a part for my encore that only came in stainless and want to blue it to match the gun. Any suggestions will help. Thanks for your info.

    There's only one way to blue SS and it's not worth spending 3 or 4 hundred dollars to set up. I do SS bluing and it wont cost much for a small part.

    The part that I need blued is a butt stock cap for my TC Encore. It is about 2 inches in dia and has a deer hoof milled into the piece. I want to leave the hoof prints in stainless and blue the rest.

    You might want to explain the end result of the stainless steel darkening process because it is not bluing as we know it.

    You can't selectively blue or blacken steel parts.

    You might want to consider having the cap Duracoated or Ceracoated. The cap can be partially masked and sprayed.

    Hi Thanks glad to be here. The prosses of bluing SS is the same a Hot Blue. I use Oxy #84 from brownells. It does a really good job and wears good too. I really don't think you'll be happy with spray paint. It tough but looks like spray paint.

    Sorry forgot to answer on the print. About the only way to leave the print silver is to blue the part and put some silver inlay in. Brownells sales a kit that will do several prints or letters. It doesn't look very good on large patterns but will probably look just fine on yours.
