Bert H & other winchester experts-now with pics
Ok guys here is a REALLY wacky Winchester that a friend of mine bought at a antique store in Pasadena, CA. I have never seen one with a barrel like this one--obviously this thing has been through the ringer and that barrel might even be some bubbafied deal-the buttplate is also history. Because of the poor condition of the finish you can barely make out nickel steel and .30 WCF. He cannot find any serial number in the regular place where they are--would they have maybe put it under the forearm? Any chance that this might be a Mexican knock off? The gun was bought as a wall hanger but the action does work--I advised him to leave it on the wall. Wonder if it also could just be a movie prop gun because it was bought in southern california.

I don't think the rear FLAT barrel band is factory [}:)][:0]. Years ago the Mexican government banned private firearms and ODIN bought a ship load I went to their warehouse with Money and looked at Thousands of guns like yours many had a section of rubber tire tread as a butt plate It was the only time in my life I looked at guns selling for $5.00 each and did not spend a dime. I for one would hang it on the wall nothing else. 0 -
Thats what I first thought--Mexican or Spanish knock off like the El Tigre or like they did with S&W and Colt revolvers--but it does have the Winchester markings on the tang although they are coroded over 0 -
It appears to be an original Model 1894 Winchester that has had some very severe Spanish/Mexican/Bubba Engineering applied along with a deep salt water bath. I particularly love the utilization of the cotter pin! A great exhibit of creativity and ingenuity to put on display! 0 -

maybe it was a long barrel model with a short magazine tube that some bubba changed to that one on it now. I agree it's a ugly gun--would kroil & 000 steel wool remove the corrosion on the finish? 0 -

Also, it appears to have a 20 (?) inch carbine barrel with original post for the front sight.
Original configuration would be anyone's guess at this time!
The gun is a relic; it should be left as is in my opinion! It actually has some character, although severely abused and pitted, so at this point I wouldn't try to shine it up and make it anything more than it is; a wall hanger!0 -
EGADS!!!... I hope that your friend paid less than $50 for it.
That old Model 1894 undoubtedly saw a lot of time south of the border. Unfortunately, there is no other place the serial number was stamped other than the bottom of the receiver frame.0
