In the opinion of the moderator...
Those of us who call Ask The Experts our home are a pretty tight little group and I like to think of us as a sort of independent little republic inside the massive Gun Broker forums with our beloved Capt. Kirk acting as head of state. Most of the time we co exist here and there are seldom the same kinds of problems in ATE as exist in the "other forums". Be that as it may, we still have rules here and the purpose of having moderators is to make judgments on the content of what is posted. Ask The Experts is not designed to allow for unlimited discussion, which is the reason that Capt. Kirk began the ten post limit many years ago. Nearly everyone understands the reasoning behind this rule and we all live within the guidelines. From time to time we have new folks show up who can't seem to grasp this rule or understand that when a moderator considers the question asked and answered then the subject is closed. While we do allow the opening of Part II on a thread, it will not be for the purposes of continuing an argument or as a vehicle for getting in the last word on a subject. While personal insults, slurs and the use of profanity are never allowable, the moderators can use their own judgement and if we feel that the tone of what is being said is not appropriate we can lock the thread, ten posts or not, or even delete it at our discretion. One final note: When a thread has been hijacked, even if it is by the original poster, then you cannot consider it to be the same thread for a part II. If you asked about apples, then decided mid way to move over to oranges and hit your ten post limit, you need to start a new thread on the subject of oranges.
Lets play nice.
Lets play nice.

Even over there a troll is a troll and that one was a troll. 0 -
Mark......Understood! I, for one, have not been on the GB Forum for much time but enjoy it a lot, as do others. I have been especially impressed by the monitoring of the Forum by the moderators, which I consider important. Everyone has a boss, and only through civil discourse can issues be addressed and questions answered expertly. I read most of the threads in the Forum and am impressed by the professialism of those that answer the questions. And by the questions asked! You guys (the moderators) do a fine job, IMHO. Keep up the fine work! Orders Understood! Over and out! 0 -
Agree 100% thanks it needed to be said 0 -

Gary, you have already made some fine contributions and are a welcome addition to our little network of experts. By it's very nature ATE is transiant, many people stop by for a quick visit after inheriting a gun that they know nothing about, get the information that they need and then (sadly) we never hear from them again. Recently we have had several visitors who were not very friendly, were argumentative, insulted our members and just plain made themselves unwelcome. Those of us on staff are used to getting angry e-mails (I usually post the one's I receive for their entertainment value) but one of the primary duties of a moderator is to protect the rank and file members from abuse. If this means editing, locking or even deleting posts or entire threads then it will be done if the staff sees fit. For the most part this forum runs itself with you good folks answering the vast majority of questions while Bert, nononsense, Capt. Kirk and myself just looking on or wade in on topics which we have a serious interest in (such as Winchester rifles for Bert). We never really expect there to be any trouble, but occasionally we do get a hot head and have to take action. This happened today and had to be dealt with.0 -
Yep, 10 post since 1999.

While I certainly enjoy and frequent the GD and Reloading forums here it's ATE that impresses me the most. If you're into guns at all it is one of the most interesting, educational and informative places I've seen online. One of the few sites that make the monthly internet access fee worth it to me.
You and the rest of the mods here do a great job and I hope ATE never goes away.0 -
Really appreciate this forum and have no problem with the rules with one minor (very minor) qualification: I would ask that if a poster has nothing substantive to add they not use one of the ten permitted replies. Thanks 0 -
Now if only you can get the trolls to read your post and learn from it. 0
