7.62x25 ammo
where,s it all at? cant seem to find any s&b or any other at a good price right now. any ideas? thanks [:(]

I'm thinking of buying a 7.62x25 cal pistol but i dont know anything about them. are they more powerfull then a 9mm. what kind of velocity do they have. i seen some in shotgun news for about 120.00. is that a good price on them 0 -
To the best of my knowledge all surplus ammo in this caliber will be full metal jacket and way too over penetrating for carry.
I did a Dogpile with "7.62x25 soft point" as the search term and got back several hits.

Yes, the Mauser ammo will work in the Tokarov but not the other way around due to much higher pressures.0 -
Thanks Henry, I realize the fmj isn't the best for carry ammo, which is why I'm looking for hp or sp. I hear Wolf makes hp but its no where to be found right now. Is it true you can use the 763 Mauser ammo in one of these? 0 -
dfassbendersr.......welcome to the world of 7.62x25! Great little round that is a powerhouse and probably put down more Nazi's in WWII in the east than any other Soviet round! The last part of your question first. No, IMHO this round is not good for CC. I have quite a few weapons chambered for it (CZ52's, TT-33's etc) and the round is far too "hot" for CC. Plus, although I like the weapons a lot, I would never trust my life to one of them in a CC role. They are fun to shoot, literally a "blast" at the range, but far to fast and overpenetrating for CC. That is one reason why all the Comm Bloc countries ditched them in the 1950's and shifted over to the 9x18. What you want is stopping power and the 9mm, 38+p, 40, or 45 do that much better. My 7.62x25 Comm Bloc guns are for pleasure shooting and target practice and nothing more. As to ammo, I have found the Chinese stuff, while dirty, fun to shoot and rather cheap. I have not had an experience with the Rom stuff. Anyway, my 2c and good shooting! 0 -
Thanks Gary, I ordered some Romy ammo with it, so once I am able to clean the cosmo off and blast off a few rounds, I'll report my findings. dfrassbendersr....it is a little bit of both. Your very question really answers part of it...there is really no good hp like a CorBon or Silvertip available for the round. It is what it is, fmj, and anything else brings up realibilty issues...the very issues you do not want when you are trusting your life to your weapon and its ammo. To the other part of your question, I have not had realibility problems with my 7.62's but they are military weapons and old (got to be carefully with the "old" part) so, again, the question is do I want to trust my life and my loved one's lives to 50+ year technology when much better choices are available. Another issue is weight, which I think when you get into CC you will find will become an issue..at least it was with me. That alone would knock out my CZ52's. You didn't ask but I will tell you that I CC a Titamium 38+ revolver and also a .45 Glock 36. So, the 7.62's are fun to shoot, correct CC ammo is really not available for them, and there are other better choices in my book for the one time that I might have to use the weapon and my life depended on it. Thanks for the advice ATF. It is a pain and I've learned that you don't want to let the gun sit for even a day. I've seen first hand what corrosive primers can do if left in the gun. But it's so affordable... 0 -
dfassbendersr.....the Chinese stuff I mentioned (and all the stuff I shoot) is not, repeat not, corrosive. The milsup stuff is cheap but very corrosive which means constant careful cleaning of the weapon. Some like it because it saves a few pennies, but I gave up years ago with that and will spend more $ to buy the clean stuff. The Chinese ammo is "dirty" in that it leaves a powder residue on the weapon and my hands but it is non-corrosive. Anyway, not to beat a dead horse to death, but IMHO 7.62x25 is fun to shoot but not what you would want to risk your life on...or because of its penatrating power, a passerby. Much better options out there, in my view. Good shooting! 0 -

Dont buy '50s ammo. Most will split necks. Romanian ammo from the 1980s is good but all is corrosive.
The Polish barrels I have are unplated but Chinese replacements are plated and handle corrosive better with less cleaning.
I was first impressed with these pistols after firing one through a railroad tie in the Army.
Accounts of the '96 Mauser pistol pulping long bones impressed
me with the effectiveness of a slightly slower but otherwise identical cartridge.0 -
