dbl strike firing pin?

I know some of the first rimfire cartridges were not real reliable and occasionally one might just rotate it and fire again. But this old cartridge was fired in a firearm that had a dble strike firing pin. looks to be about a .44 in size
Found this while metal detecting an old home site.
Can someone help me out please?

    Possible 44 henry. Many of the large caliber rimfires had a double firing pin- just in case a section of the rim had skipped getting primed. You could only put so much priming compound in a cartridge- and you were at risk of blowing the folded head off the case if you had too much.

    I appreciate the help guys. Idahoducker, the link was especially helpful and revealed the answer to my query. The Henry and the Winchester model 1866 both had the dbl strike mechanism I was looking for.

    Nat'l Geographic did an 'archaeological/forensic' study of the LBH battle site a few years back. They were able to, somewhat accurately, trace the movement of the belligerents by plotting artifact recovery.

    Many double strike rimfire casings were unearthed. Through location, and deduction, they [the spent cases] were not US equipment.

    That leaves the Indians. They carried firearms that would cause a double rimfire strike. Any leads on that angle? Thanks, Joe

    I have found 44 henrys. Three in one area about 3' diameter, and 150' away a hudson bay steel trade arrow head. One of the henrys had been tried to fire twice.(Still loaded and with powder) All were dble strike firing pin strikes,that the henry rifle did have.
