springfield xd service(4") 9mm
first off, thank you for taking your time to read this. I have a xd 4" 9mm and i was wondering if I can put a 5" barrel on it. from what i understand, the 4" and 5" frame are the same. so if i get a 5"barrel, guide rod, recoil spring, and slide will it work on my originally 4"? the barrel, rod, and spring are easy to get, its the slide that will be the tough one to find. i have seen them here and there though. thank you for any and all help.

First of all, why?? You gain a slight amount of velocity, 30-40FPS, but it is not worth the cost of replacing all the slide components. If you have your heart set on that 5" barrel, I would just sell the one I have and buy the one I want. You will not see an appreciable increase in accuracy with the 1" longer barrel. Its a little bit easier to carry the 4" gun. I think if you put the money you would spend on a barrel, slide etc etc into ammo for practice you will find that you do very well with the 4" barreled pistol. 0
