Winchester Model 24 12 ga Question
Greetings from new to forum,
I have had a Win Model 24 12 ga. for over 30 years that I got as part of a trade. It appears in very good condition and I would like to put up for auction. I have never fired it. When checking all functions I also dry fired it (which I know is not a good idea). Pulled both triggers, one at a time and both times the breakdown lever "twitched". Is this normal? Have never seen this on my Fox doubles. Do not want to have an auction problem. Also the finish is excellent. Is there easy way to tell if it is reblued. Thanks in advance for help.

Fire it and see what happens..Don;t think its a problem,,if you have had it for 30 years,,doubt if its been reblued,but a few pics(close) might prove otherwise....also if "pad" aded ect for hurting value....imo..Good field shotguns.. 0 -
I think what you are seeing is when the hammers are dropping against the frame the vibration is allowing the gun to close a little bit tighter, thus the top lever moves just a bit. try closing the gun and tapping with your knuckles on the frame, I bet the top lever moves a little bit towards the "close" position. Its normal.
A reblued model 24 would only have been reblued if it were used alot and even mistreated. Post some photos for a definite answer but if the wood is in as good of shape as the metal its probably original.0 -
Thanks to the forum for response. I may just being paranoid. The "twitch" is really just a slight vibration movement. With a live shell I would have never noticed it. Do not want to fire because the barrels are "mirror-blinding clean". Still not sure about reblue because outside of barrels are pristine. Pictures should take care of that at auction and I'll offer an inspection period. Just did not want to misrepresent something I have done nothing but store. Thanks again 0
