What year were the receivers on 22 rifles first grooved? Thanks.

The earliest I know of,Mauser, started around 1925. 0 -
Winchestere did not add that feature to their .22 caliber rifles until the latter part of the 1950s. 0 -
Thanks Bert. I was looking for the winchester and remington 22 cal rifles. Thanks. 0 -
I believe Mossberg started that with their 100 series. (But sometimes I'm wrong!) The 146B I bought in 1951 had the grooves. 0 -
Here is a Mauser 22 made about 1933. Mauser started grooving about 1925 with the ES340 model. The grooves could be used to mount an optional scope or receiver sight. The grooves measure 11mm, still in common use today. An example is the Kimber 82G, which uses the same specs.

williwm: That's neat! Are those grooves the same as we find on domestic .22's? 0 -
ambrose, thanks, there is a very slight difference in the widths. Most mounts that have a range of adjustment will work on either, some won't. 0
