CZ Model 3

Has anyone had experience with the CZ Model 3, and if so, what caliber, etc?

The CZ Model 3 was only offered for a relatively short period of time, and was made by Montana Rifleman. I like them and may be interested in buying one.

Are the barrels free-floated? Are the actions bedded? How is the accuracy?

I saw a very nice one in Cabela's in SS yesterday.

    I have one in .300 WSM. Great rifle! very smooth, very accurate! And, very nice to look at.

    Yes, they are very attractive, and would appear to be a fabulous buy.

    Also, what is your opinion about the 300 WSM ballistically at max loads? Would you say it is equal to the 300 Win Mag? What about the 300 Weatherby. What about the 308 Norma or the .30-.338 Winchester Mag?

    Are you loading for it? If so, do you chrony them?

    With one exception, the bolt release, this is a contract made Winchester Model 70. CZ paid Winchester to produce these specifically for the WSM series of cartridges.

    The accuracy level of these is MOA @ 300 (3") with both 150 gr. Nosler BT's and 180 gr. Accubonds.

    Yes, the barrel is free floated.

    On mine there is a small dab of almost clear epoxy under/behind the recoil lug and under the action.

    The trigger is adjustable down to about 2# and can also be easily honed to improve the smoothness of the pull. It is a standard Winchester type trigger.

    Ballistically, the 300 WSM doesn't match what the .300 WM can do all out. It (WSM) can push 180 gr. bullets to 3000+ fps. I typically keep them at 2950. I load the 150's to 3200. My .300 WM I loaded heavier bullets in because it was a target rifle. I was loading 210/208 gr. bullets to 2930. They both do well with H1000

    The CZ M-3 action was made by Montana Rifle Company (MRC) using their M1999 action. It is similar to the Model 70 Winchester in many respects, but there are some significant differences. The differences are outlined here: http://www.bitsofpieces.com/montanaactions.html

    I have a Montana 1999 in 270 WSM. It is an accurate rifle, but did have initial feeding problems. It was re-worked by MRC and now feeds reliably.

    I don't know where you got that information but I was told by CZ they were built under license (Winchester granted permission for a royalty) by CZ. My information came from CZ while I was looking for a set trigger like the 550's have. They said "No can do, that product is basically a license built Win 70, and they won't change the agreement with Winchester and design/build features like what their current rifle line offers."

    Now, that doesn't necessarily preclude what could be a fact, in that maybe Montana Rifleman did build the actions for CZ. I don't know. I only know what I was told.

    Bottom line: they are nice rifles and shoot very well. I don't have a whole lot of experience with them other than I own one. And they quit making them so I don't know what calibers they were chambered in.

    Thank you to you both for the information. I handled one of these at Cabela's yesterday in 300 WSM and SS, and I was quite impressed with the workmanship and classic lines.

    I have also heard, and confirmed with MRC, that MRC did make the Model 3s, under contract for CZ. For whatever reason, they only offered them for a relatively short period of time.
