37 winchester [set]
Experts ; I ran into a old fellow today that has a set of Red Letter 37 Winchesters 410,28,20,16,12 never been fired or even broke down.Pig tail breakdown and little hammer he said they were first that were made and he would sale them.What are they worth?

Met with the guy with the 37's today and after close exam I believe the 12 has been shot some.He came down to Five Grand and he offered to take a 45 Colt Cowboy that I have NIB [cyinder never has been turned]and Four grand.I don't doubt the authenticty of the 28 but its a different color but plate than the rest kinda brown looking but you could tell it was for that gun.I'll have wife help put pic on tomorrow if she can figure out how to do it..I didn't take either of the deals today but he said they were good if I decide I wanted them later if he still had them.He said he paid 4500 eigt years ago for them.Did I mess up not buying them today? 0 -
Does he still have the boxes and paperwork?
That is an interesting collection, but there are not many serioius Model 37 collectors out there, and it takes someone with both an interest and deep pockets to want to pay the $$$$ that the set is probably worth.0 -
I'd pay more for that 28 than the other 4 combined. Hard to believe none of them have ever been broken down. 0 -
When he lets you look at the guns the first thing he says is don't break it down.They do have the tags on them but I'll ask about the boxes.I'll try to get pics.He said he would take 6500.00.That's alot of money but something you don't see every day... 0 -
If you go by the book, that set is worth about $4000.00. However, that is the firrst time I've ever heard of a complete collection of 37s in unfired condition. If he has the boxes and paperwork I think a serious collector(with deep pockets) would pay his price. If you really want them, offer him 4 grand and go from there. Good Luck! 0 -

I agree, with the boxes they might do that $. Were'nt the guns broke down in the box? I might be getting it confused with a M12 box.0 -
Todd, although I've never seen a NIB 37, I'm sure they were broken down. I'm curious to know how this turns out. The 28 gauge is a major point of interest. I've read that 37s in 28 gauge (like model 12s in 28 gauge) were sometimes fake, built up guns. May the buyer beware. 0 -

I have seen more fake ones than real ones.
Tthere used to be a guy down in Georgia that if you send him a 20ga. and $650 he will send you back a 28ga. that is virtually indistiguisable.0 -
I may be dickering with the guy tomorrow on the 37s.Talked to him today and found more about them.He is the second owner and the first got them as a retirement present all order together,they all look alike same shade of stain ,they look identical just different gauges..A divorce may be upcoming..I would love to have them..If we meet tomorrow I will post Pics. 0 -
