    I'd find a second stock "for later" and take a saw to the current one (or to the replacement one)

    mkdealnow,

    There is a shorter Plinkster named 'Bantam' so if you don't have this one maybe you could call Mossberg and see about buying one from them.

    Bantam model - 702 Plinksterr BantamT scoped combo model features a shortened 12 ?" LOP and 18" barrel - perfect for young shooters or smaller stature adults;

    If you have the Bantam then your choice is to cut this stock and make it work then replace it later when he grows.

    Best.

    mkdealnow,

    The best place to start is at the beginning. Call, write or e-mail Mossberg to get the information:

    Try Customer Service and explain your situation. Then if necessary Parts and Accessories.

    Best.

    For what its worth, the current stock on the model 702 "Plinkster" is made of hollow plastic.

    Just cutting it down is probably not going to work so well. To get a good result, you'd have to cut it, then fill the hollow parts with something and attach a new buttplate. Its doable, just more work.

    If you like the gun, best bet is to swap it for the "Bantam" model of the same.

    I'd say if you are looking at swapping out the gun, for really not much more money you could get a Ruger 10/22.

    The Ruger comes in a short-stock youth version too, plus the gun itself is highly customizable.

    If you like later you can swap out for any number of aftermarket stocks in a variety of configurations (including ones that mimic other guns like an AR-15 or AK-47), match/bull barrel, high-cap magazines, drop in match trigger, etc.

    You can basically turn it into an entirely different gun that way, and this is not something you can do with the "Plinkster".

    Thanks for the help!
    Besides feel, are there any measurements I can take so I do not make the same mistake twice?
