Iver Johnson revolver
I have an old Iver Johnson top brake .38 S&W.It belonged to my Grandfather, he was with the Los Angeles Co. Sheriff's Dept. circa 1903. It is missing most of the interior parts. Hammer block safety, springs, etc. I think both the .32 and the 38 S&W were built on the same frame. Are the interior working parts from a .32 interchangable with an .38 S&W.Thanks in advance for your imput.

I recently was given an old Iver Johnson revolver that belonged to my great grandfather. I believe it is a .38 cal, top break, 5 shot with a safety on the trigger similar to a glock. It has plastic grips with an owl at the top. On the barrel it says Iver Johnsons Arms & Cycle Works Fitchburg Mass, USA followed by several pat. dates. SN which is located on the bottom of the grip is 7366. Any info would be greatly appreciated 0 -
i would need to know what the several patents date are (exactly) before attempting to identify. just to start thing off the serial number on the butt generally mean a first model (1894-1897). a few of the earliest second models have serial numbers on the butt especaly in the hammerless models. what type of barrel latch does it have?

the top of the barrel the entire writing is: IVER Johnson's Arms & Cycle Works Fitchburg Mass, USA Pat'd APR. 6, 86. FEB. 15, 87. MAY. 10, 87. DEC 26, 93. PAT's PENDING.
I've heard that some of these guns have dates or numbers under the grips so I removed those but couldnt find anything there. If you would like to see pics I have them posted on firearms forum at http://www.firearmsforum.com/showthread.php?t=74988

I saw the name Ivers&Johnson in your post. I also have a.38 revolver, hammerless with Ivers& Johnson Arms& Cycle works on top of the barrel. Top break with a latch, Owl on the grips.pat Nov. 17,08 on the butt ser#664**. Just curious about any history like you. I've owned mine for over 40 years. Was my dads before. Never shot it. afraid to. It's to old for me. 0 -

this patent date was use from 1914 until they stopped puting patent dates on their revolvers. so this is a third model but i can't identify if futher with out know the caliber and the letter code found under the left grip panel. below is the information on the third model hammer.

this most likely will be a first model 1894-1896. i will have a look at the other fourm and give a more complete description, after looking at it.
