.45 Upgrades

I don't know much about 1911 upgrades. Can you upgrade the sights on a Citadel .45 or Rock Island Armory .45? Roughly how much is a trigger job on a .45? Can most gun shops do trigger jobs?

    Any 1911 "can" have the sights upgraded, its a question of cost-effectiveness.

    The Citadel has dovetailed in sights; swapping them out should be relatively easy should you need to do that.

    Rock Island Armory, I think that's going to depend on the gun. I think the lower-end ones don't have dovetailed sights, meaning that to install most of the good aftermarket sights a dovetail would have to be cut into the slide for the sight to fit in. That certainly can be done, but it will take more work and cost more.

    How much is a trigger job? Depends on who is doing it.

    Since trigger jobs on 1911s are a pretty common request, most experienced gunsmiths can/will do it. You have to be VERY careful about this, though. Because the reliability, and more important safety of your gun can be reduced with an improper trigger job, you have to be sure the person working on your gun knows what they are doing!

    I'd say $75-100 is probably a typical price, but that may vary highly depending on where you are and who does it for you.

    Note that a true pistolsmith is going to do more than just polish up or re-cut the sear. They're also going to tweak your springs and polish up other internal parts so that everything is smoother.
