Need Holster Advice
I'll be taking a CCW class next month. Eventually I'll get a permit. I know some of you must carry. I'll probably carry my Makarov. Only other CF I have is a Colt Detective. Was looking at another thread about Mak or a CZ82 (I think) The CZ looked like it has a lot of better features than the Mak. The magazine release and capacity were the 2 big ones. Anyways, comfort and concealment would be high up on the list

victorj19...certainly a matter of personal choice. Years ago when I got my CC I had the same questions. Settled on a crossdraw for my revolver(s), right handed so left crossdraw. I like my Taurus Titatium in the crossdraw with .38+p. Light and powerful and you don't know it is there. For semiautos I finally settled on a Jackass by Galco with the weapon on one side (under the left armpit) and the mags balanced on the other side. The Jackass rig is well made and I have one for about each of my semiautos that I carry but I prefer the Glock 36 with nightsights. Love that .45! Over the years both have worked well for me....between the two I prefer the crossdraw but I know that each method of carry has its limitations. But I am sure you will get some other suggestions on what works for others. Whatever you decide to carry and whichever way you carry, be sure to practice well including reloading. If needed, well placed shot(s) are the key to success, not comfort nor concealment. My 2c. Good luck! 0 -
I like inside the waistband holster just behind right hip. I can easily conceal commander size .45 or mid-size glock. Best I have found yet is Ted Blocker LFI rig. because holster (and mag pouch) are held in place with velcro, it can be positioned anywhere on belt and at any cant.

I found an older ElPaso pancake holster made for a Walther PPK that fits my Makarov PERFECT! 0 -

I only carry crossdraw. Galco Miami Vice for shoulder rig and Uncle Mike's for IWB.
All depends on personal preference.

First decide on WHERE on your body you are going to carry! That's going to depend on how you dress, your physical anatomy, and what you do during the day. It may take some trial and error before you figure out what works for you (it does for most people).
Your pocket? (Good for snubnose revolvers).
Ankle? (Good if you are seated all day long AND have a small gun)
Behind the dominant side hip (that would be the most popular place for general concealed carry)?
Shoulder, etc.
THEN which type of holster you'll want to buy will become more obvious.0 -
Thanks for the responses. I've learned some things. I'm leaning to a IWB behind dominate hip and maybe then a cross draw. I doubt a shoulder rig would fit my needs. 0 -
for IWB carry I use a Crossbreed Supertuck. Keeps a 1911 pulled in close and conceals in jeans and t-shirt. Holds gun tight and very comfortable to wear all day. I pack slightly behind hip bone with it tipped a little forward, that position lets me climb in and out of my truck without it hitting the seat and not have to adjust when I get out. Pretty good signal to anyone watching if you climb out and adjust your gun. 0
