welded mosin
I had the misfortune of buying a mosin nagant on the auction side that had been welded on. I didn't know it but someone tried to drill and tap holes on the top of the gun just ahead of the bolt in the hex shaped reciever. They then inserted what looks to be 3/16" bolts or ready bolt into the holes and then welded them in. they finally ground down the weld and mounted a rail over the bolts and nutted them down. The work is BEAUTIFUL. not. Is this gun safe to fire. I am thinking no.
Edit: In the auction he said that the scope mount needed work. I have emailed him several times discussing the situation and he thinks that since I got a good deal, (which I did) he isn't responsible. I paid $196 for the mosin that came with 400 rds of corrosive ammo, synthetic stock, bushnell cheapo scope and a decent sling. That price was shipped to my door. The bad thing is that UPS would not complete the delivery because the bolt on the Mosin punched a hole through the cardboard it had been packaged in. It had no protection of any kind, just a gun covered in cardboard and taped shut. He said UPS packaged it for him. My FFL had to drive 40 miles one way to go and pick it up. I would like to give him bad feedback but he hasn't left me feedback yet so I don't know if I want to. I should have known something was fishy when I found out that his current email and phone # in his profile were no good. He emailed me 2-3 days after the auction ended. So I now have 400 rds of ammo and a gun I can't use it with.

M-N's are around in such quantity and at such comparatively low prices, it's not worth messing with. Make it into a decorator/wallhanger/conversation piece, so that neither you or anybody else can get hurt by shooting it. 0 -

Really you ought to be eligible for a return and refund, it does sound like the gun is not fit to fire, if so he was deceptive. I am not sure how the refund policy works, I have never bought a gun on GB.
On the other hand, the ammo alone could be worth $200.
I am seeing Yugo ammo for that cost, also, I am seeing some nice Russian copper washed ammo for 25 cents a shot.
Also you got the sling, you need one of those. The synthetic stock could come in handy.

tido4570......+1 with the comments on ditching the played with Mosin and get another one. Too "iffy" to trust your eyesight and cheek with someone's workbench playtoy. Also, too many good Mosin's out there to mess with this one. Chalk it up to a lesson learned....when you are told "...it needs work" its usually best to run the other way. And remember, no good deed goes unpunished. Feedback? Sounds like he did a poor job in shipping. I have given negative feedback on a lot less. 0 -
would not fire it. gun show here last week a gentleman from round rock texas had really nice mosins for $125.00. you should ask for refund as that was not a rare bargain. 0 -

I think a return to the seller and a full refund is in order, nothing less. I think the seller needs to be reported.
It is not OK when a seller does not accurately describe, or forgets to mention, or does not illustrate with photos known defects of a firearm or auction item.
There are a number of careless sellers and "Yes" unscrupulous sellers on the auction side and if the buyers, experts, and Gunbroker doesn't hold them accountable who will?
I have seen respected experts on this forum describe, perhaps innocent misrepresentations or even deliberate misrepresentations, as a learning tutorial about what not to buy currently on auction and yet did nothing about correcting the situation. Shame on them. It is not always "Buyer Beware" if someone, especially a real expert knows better. If they know better it is their responsibility to contact the seller and inform them of the problem and if they are met with hostility, then report the seller to Gunbroker. It is in Gunbroker's best interest of their bottom line to keep auctions fair and accurate.
I had such an experience (I wasn't about to buy it and am no expert) where a seller was deliberately misrepresenting an item and Gunbroker made the seller change the auction listing after he chewed me up because "I wasn't retired Navy or a gunsmith." BS!
Gunbroker has Buyer's Protection Program if the item you receive is "materially different than its description" you are eligible for protection.
Get your money back!

You want a Mosin Nagant.
Give us a good description of the ammo, and box it is packaged in.
Also give all markings on the cartridge.
Better yet, pics of cartridge and box.
Let us figure out what the ammo is worth. As to being corrosive, no problem, half the fun of owning a Mosin Nagant is shooting corrosive ammo, everybody does it.
The guy who sold you this stuff deceived you. Still, even if you were to try to set up a return, somebody has to pay for shipping, etc.
Let us figure the value of the ammo, you are going to have to buy ammo, anyway. It may be that your best bet is to keep your end of this bargain and just buy a new rifle.0 -
Sorry to hear of your negative experience. (Been there! Gotten the same!)
Not to influence you one way or the other .......
However, IF you should keep what you have and purchase another rifle of the same type, model, etc. .... as some have suggested .... you probably have parts (from the first), for the life of the second rifle (maybe keep back the entire action, bolt and trigger assemblies).
From what I've been seeing on the GB auction, you could probably keep the parts that you want and/or need and part-out anything you don't need and auctioning it off ? !
That could end up being the best of all worlds?
That is sort of what I did when I was in High School (for many years afterwards), to keep a vehicle functioning for myself .... instead of buying new parts for a used vehicle .... I'd purchase a used vehicle for used spare parts to help keep my always well-used, vehicle running. After all, they are used rifles.
