pre '69' BAR ser# ending in m8

A freind has a BAR 30-06 with no engraving and vothing but the name ,caliber and ser.# The number ends with m8. Do you have any information as to manufacture date or history? Browning didn;t start serial dating this until it was introduced to public in '69'.

  The first Browning rifle I purchased was a Grade 1 BAR in 06 in 1978. It also ended in M8. I think you'll find that was the first year of sales although production probably started in 1967.
  
  Ok, fingers moving too fast. I purchased that rifle in 1968 not '78.
