Beretta 70s

The slide on these guns stays open when the last shot is fired, and it is tricky to get the clip out after that. Does anyone know if the clip can be modified to let the slide close when the last shot is fired? Some of the real old Beretta's could be modified like that. Thanks

    does this particular model lock the slide back when last bullet fired.

    if it is suppose to, any thought why the slide would not lock back

    If it's the older one with the push button safety located in the grip, he probably just didn't want to tare it apart, to work on it with out replacement parts. They haven't been made for at least 25 years.

    First thing I would do would be to check with all the on-line parts dealers to see if you can obtain a replacement safety and associated parts that might be causing the problem. Then if you don't want to do the work yourself, locate a knowledgeable gunsmith who would agree to take on the job. A lot of them won't even take on something like this, because it not cost effective. Even if they had the correct replacements parts, it might take them half a day to get them in and working correctly. At their hourly rate it would probably be more than the Beretta is worth.

    Have a Beretta 70s Garcia and they are well worth fixing from my stand point. Real nice shooter and look very good too. Hope you can find the parts.

    Take it to another gunsmith safetys just dont wear out! The button in the grip is for the magazine release. You most likely have to give it a good cleaning as these guns are pretty tough. If the safety is in the off position how can it be seizing?. Make sure you have the take down lever in the locked position.

    John W. I thought the exact same thing, what happens is after firing a shot the safty engages automatically and gets stuck in the safe position, I don't understand how a safety can wear out. I don't know how to go about finding a reliable gunsmith, as I mentioned this gun is very sentimental and I would love to have it firing correctly again.

    Contact beretta and see if they are willing to work on it and if not just go thru the book and find a gunsmith but make sure you take everything with a grain of salt till your sure he is not stringing you along. Take the slide off and see if the safety lever is loose as it should have a retainer ball or something that lohds it in the safe and down position. If it free wheels up and down with no retention something is wrong. You are talking about the safety at the left rear of the pistol correct?. From what you are saying when you fire it and the slide returns to battery the saftey is in the snappep up position?

    This is what a Beretta 70 S looks like. It has a push-button safety through the upper portion of the grip. Beretta didn't go to the conventional lever type safety located above the grip, until much later in production.

    ah ha i was refering to the 70 s beretta that has the push up lever. Ok now that we are on the same page there should be a spring and ball that slides into the grooves of the push button safety that hold it in place. This spring and ball may be missing and if so an easy repair. It may also be gunked down and stuck and the safety slides from side to side without the ball detent holding it in one position or the other.

    My 70s has a lever type safety, I am going to contact beretta and see if they can help.
