Winchester 74 serial number

Looking for date of manufacture for a Winchester 74. All sources I've checked say that the serial number is out of range. It is marked 22 Short, and the serial number is 3088.

  What sources are you using?
  
  Winchester Model 74 serial number 3088 was manufactured in March of 1939. Serial number 1 was delivered to the warehouse from the assembly room on February 15th, 1939.
