Butler Creek stock modifiction?
I have a BC black composite stock for the 98 Mauser and need to widen the barrel channel a slight bit. What's the best method and tools...sandpaper, small plane, file? I've never worked plastic stocks before, so your advice is appreciated. Thank you!

I used a dremel tool when widening the channel for my 10/22 BC stock. You just have to keep the RPM's low or it'll start melting. If you are needing to take off just a tiny bit, then yeah, probably sandpaper wrapped over a dowel or whatever shape you need. 0 -
Butler creek is soft polymer. Stick with hand tools and sandpaper or results will not be good. 0 -
I just relieved six Remington stocks to free float the barrels. One was a composite, one a synthetic, the rest were wood! Having so many to do at once I decided to search for a "fast" attack! What I used was one of the cheap tool supplier drum sanding kits, (has 4 different size rubber drums on shanks and a bunch of varying grit slide on drums). I also utilized a 15 inch drill extension, the type that has a hex shank to put in a drill and an opening at the other end to insert the drum shank, which is held in place by two allen screws. I used a variable speed drill and was able to float the drum along the channel and form my desired size. One hint, use a reversing drill, that way you can reverse it on the right side of the channel when you are near the top, and it won't want to "walk" out of the channel on you!
