RUSSIAN SKS (Vietnam War Trophy) II

Ok, I picked up the rifle in the previous post up today. The paperwork (bring-back papers) look original as well as the "seal" that was used when staming the papers. I know that the majority of SKS's from Russia that I have looked at in the past have a star on the cover and a date below. This rifle does not have that "stamping" on the cover. The number on the stock, receiver, trigger guard, drop down magazine(?) all match (and match the paperwork) and the only thing that concerned me was the lack of a star & date on the cover on top. I did however find a star on the left side of the receiver above the stock and right next to the serial number. Inside the star (about 3/8" size), was either a number 1 or an arrow. I know the arrow is typical to Russian SKS stamping, but had not seen a number 1 before.

Anyway, the paperwork says "Make--Russia". So I assume (I know) that they considered it Russian while doing the paperwork.

I'll get home later today and take some pictures, but until then, if anyone has any input on the description I have provided above regarding the stamping and lack of star on the top cover, it would be appreciated.

    If you want to start part II then part I, whether or not it has reached it's ten post limit, is locked. We won't allow two identical threads open on the boards at the same time because it only causes confusion.

    You done good! Youper John's site shows late production Russian SKS's with similar markings. As long as the Bring Back papers aren't phonies, you got your hands on a very desirable/valuable SKS, to a military firearms collector. See Youper John's site at this link.

    MOONED...+1 on your keen eye! I ran out to the gun safe to check my Russian SKS's and I too have one exactly as you describe! Got it years ago from a VietNam vet who did not have the capture papers. The arrow within the star is the Tula factory mark, which is very desireable as we mentioned. The Russians also helped their VietCong friends and supplied SKS's but scrubbed many of the receivers to take off the Russian markings. You did good! A super piece of VietNam history. Good shooting

    Mark, Thanks for the information. I thought I was doing the right thing by starting another post because the old one was already at number 8. I figure if I added a remark to that post, it would then be locked after one reply.

    Rufe, Thanks for the information. Please tell me if I'm dreaming, but the SKS I just got has what appears to be a star with a 1 inside. I just went outside in very good light and verified. According to the link you sent, that would make this a North Vietnam piece. Am I correct on this?? Please say yes, please say yes........ Is so, that would make this a VERY highly sought after item. Am I correct?
