With the papers it look like a good deal for $500. The only thing I question is in his photos he doesn't show the top of the receiver cover. It will usually have a date and crest of the Russian arsenal that manufactured the SKS. I believe all Russian SKS's have these markings except the last ones built in the mid 50's.

Their are a lot of SKS sites on line with excellent photos. I suggest pulling some of them up to search for photos of the correct cover markings. If this guy has a SKS without markings, it would in my mind detract from it's value.

Thanks Rufe. I have seen the date stampings you are referring to and will make sure that I have a correct cover and matching numbers prior to a purchase.

What would the typical value be of a decent condition Vietnam era SKS be? I've looked in past sales by doing a "smart search", but have not really found and Russian Nam bring backs....

I just don't want to pay more than the SKS value could potentially be. Any insite in this would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

MOONED....military weapons with capture papers are always desireable and will not lose value over time. In the case of an SKS, the Russian ones (particularly Tula marked) are the most desireable so I would be all over it for $500. But check it carefully, making sure the capture papers match the weapon and that it has not been fooled around with by some "garage mechanic." Let us know what you did! Good shooting!

Agree with Gary Wray here. Make sure its not forged paper. If it is the value is diminished.

Thanks all for your input. I'll review the papers to the best of my ability.

And, of course, make sure there's no importer marking, or evidence that one has been removed
a sure sign that it's bogus.

Since you decided to open up a part II on your SKS then this thread, even without reaching then posts, is locked.
