Ruger "BLack"-"Silver" Eagle grips

Just noticed; my OM Flat-top 357 has a black eagle and the OM 45 convert has a silver eagle. When was the change?

  It's late, and as good a time as any to throw my ignorance on the fire. I was only aware of Red and Black eagles. Assumed the few silvers I saw simply had the paint removed. No?[:D][:D]

  At the risk of providing misinformation I will throw this out.
  
  Early semi auto pistols had the red eagle. After Sturm's death, Ruger changed the eagle to black.
  
  In the book Ruger Single Actions: The Second Decade by John C. Dougan is pictured a Blackhawk in .45 LC cal with serial number 45-14152, Jan. 1972. It has the black eagle.
  
  Beneath it is pictured Blackwak, .45 Cal. Serial number 45-19553, Nov. 1972. It has the silver eagle.
  
  This is pretty strong evidence that the change was made in 1972 and between the serial numbers listed above.

  There were also some recent red eagles,I remember reading. Perhaps when Ruger passed.

  Black Eagles from 1951-1972, Silver Eagles from 1972 to date.
