Albert Greener

I have a Albert Greener side by side 12Ga. shot gun with hammers, london fine twist barrel, S# 9164 and other markings and stamps , and scroll work with pure silver on the butt and forarm . Can anyone tell me how old it is and the value ? thank you

    Boothroyd's Directory of British Gunmakers does not list an Albert Greener. What are the proofmarks under breech end of barrel? The Belgian cottage industry gunmakers often used names similar to noted British firms on guns imported to USA, and it might be an attempt to suggest it originated with the famed W. W. Greener firm.

    If there's an ELG in an oval mark, it's Belgian.

    Hello gentlemen. Interesting topic. I apparently do have an original Albert Greener the 4th of maybe 30 made by him in California - as per Graham Greener (5th generation). You may find the following of interest.

    Certainly the circumstances of Albert Greener are somewhat of a mystery. He trained to be a gunmaker in his father's works at Rifle Hill, Birmingham, England but left for and arrived in San Francisco, in 1869. From there he disappears off the face of the earth but there are some intriguing clues to what happened to him. Several guns bearing his name have turned up, most in the west coast of the United States of America. About 20 - 30 could have been made or finished by Albert if he did make guns in or around San Francisco or California and judging by the quality of these it is likely they were made by Albert, finished by him in USA and the barrelled actions he used originated from England as they have Birmingham Proof Marks.

    Now Graham Greener says, per the pics I sent him of my gun, that he believes mine to be a true Albert Greener gun probably #4 of about 30 guns made due to the , serial number on Albert's guns is usually on the wood of the fore end and on the action only, the marks on the barrels - Birmingham, anchor and dog with bird are on the butt plate, typical 'Greener' locks of a specific design they still had in the original Greener factory when it closed in 1967.

    Now what I am curious of , is what is the value of my gun. In the past everyone I asked just said it was a Belgium fake. It seems as most collectors are not aware of that Albert Greener actually made a few guns. Whom do you think would be the best to give me a value as I do wish to sell. Thanks.
