Why is there so much resistance/issues shipping ammo to California? 0 -
Some people seem to have the notion that the restrictions for the purchase/shipping of handgun ammunition into CA, which will go into effect 12 months from now, are currently in force. 0 -
There are a few areas in Ca where shipping ammo is not allowed, or so its claimed. Cities of LA, Oakland, San Francisco and a couple small counties.
Sellers might just be erroring on the safe side by deciding to not ship anywhere in Cal. 95% of the state is just fine for shipping ammo to.0 -

Shipping ammo to SF is not illegal, though some sellers (like Midway) will not do it because they believe it could be illegal and as you say are erring on the safe side. Midway also will not sell reloading supplies such as empty brass and bullets only. Midway is the only company I know of that takes this approach - they also wouldn't ship to SOUTH San Francisco because their computer system puts it as the south part of SF - it's not, not even in the same county.
In addition to the "gun control" aspect the ammo restriction also creates a closed market. We'll have to buy from CA gun stores which will cost more and generate tax $$$ for CA. I have a C & R FFL and CA COE and am exempt, others may want to do the same.0 -
I have had my C&R FFL and COE for quite a while. I was not aware of the exemption (to the handgun ammo shipping law) for holders of these licenses until you mentioned it a couple weeks ago. Thats good news. Now, getting ammo sellers to honor the exemption will be a whole new challenge. We have about 12 months to educate them. 0 -

Yep, that's the trick. I suspect once it starts there will be a blanket "no ammo" from all vendors, then a few will fine tune their policy. I like Midway, but they are terrible with respect to these sorts of things - they are the only online vendor I've bought from to take that approach. MidSouth, Grafs and Cabelas, etc all ship. My guess is Grafs will eventually be agreeable, I hope.
On the other hand, there isn't a really good ammo & reloading supply store in northern CA. I'm hoping someone will expand their inventory.0
