Metal Finish For Rust Bluing

    You use sandpaper only to smooth out nicks etc. You have to wheel polish with compounds before you reblue. The gun should look like a mirror before bluing. If you want the cheap way out bead blast it and blue it and it will come out a rough matte blue but it will be that way all over. It will look sorta like a parkerized gun only blue

    It depends on how bright you want it to look after blueing. We have used 400-800 grit on guns. If you sand flats, use a flat piece of metal under the sandpaper. If you buff, you stand to round out the lettering if buffed too hard. Woodcrafters Supply has very fine grit sandpaper.

    The rust bluing process "frosts" the metal. I would think 600 grit would be entirely adequate.
