colt 380 hammerless auto
I just bought this gun, and I need help identifying its value. it only has 3 digits for the serial number. can anyone tell me things to look for to identify the age of the gun, and its value?

Sounds like a firs year 1908 Gun [^]Condition and if original finish and parts will mean EVERY THING this is one time when Pictures are a MUST closeup in focus with good lighting. Rhey made over 2000 the first year so yours is VERY early.
EDITMake sure you get detail Pictures from about 6" away from all angles of the serial number if Possible The reason this is so important is if the original numbers were removed during refinishing and the current 3 digits are replacement Stamped by the refinisher it would Really Really Kill the value.0 -
I just went to the gun show and looked at some similiar with 6 digit serial numbers, and noticed that those serial numbers were perfectly alinged and straight. mine seem to not be square. meaning they have a slight uphill direction. any ideas on this?

I have one of these as well. Mine is stamped "Colt's PT.F.A.MFG CO.HARTFORD,CT.U.S.A PATENTED APR.20,1897.DEC.22,1903" Serial number is 130893 On the other side is COLT AUTOMATIC CALIBRE.380 HAMMERLESS. Also, on the trigger guard it is stamped "75".
How do I find out how old it is and how much it is wort?>

Yours dates to 1939. To help with valuation we need quality close-up photos. There is a "Sticky" near the top of the forum that gives instructions on posting photos.0
